Blue is the traditional railroad color meaning "STOP". In 1970, when OSHA began issuing regulations for railroad safety on industrial sidings, they chose to adopt the color blue for signage to protect parked rail cars and crews working thosee cars...
Some state or local railroad regulations require red signs on industrial sidings. Red is equally acceptable as blue to comply with OSHA regulations.
Signs should be at least 50 feet in front of the parked rail cars or building entrance to be protected
As soon as rail cars are delivered to your loading track the blue sign should be installed in front of the lead car and remain in place until the car has been cleared for removal by the railroad.
At night, in order to draw greater attention to the blue sign, a flashing blue light should in place..
